Our "Cancer Fund Drumsticks Campaign"... raising money for donation to the Canadian Cancer Society
April 12, 2012 UPDATE: Peyts attended the Ottawa branch of the Canadian Cancer Society to proudly turn-over the $4,539.39 raised thus far via our Cancer Fund Drumsticks Campaign. See below for pictures of the cheque presentation!
April 10, 2012 UPDATE: Our current grand total of raised funds: $4,539.39
March 2, 2012 UPDATE: Our "Album Auction 4 Cancer" auctions came to a close at midnight, March 1. These auctions were for an early release copy of our debut album" Three Streets to the Wind" and 1 of 3 sets of pink Los Cabos drumsticks used by Peyts in the recording of the album. Each auction was named in the memory of a friend or family member who had fought cancer. As a result, another $400 was raised for our "Cancer Fund Drumsticks Campaign".
January 24, 2012 UPDATE: We received a $150 donation from the RCMP IBET HQ canteen fund... thanks for much for thinking of our campaign! Cheers!
October 25, 2011 UPDATE: We received a $150 donation from RCMP "J" Division made on behalf of S/Sgt. (ret.) Gilles Roger for his retirement. Thanks so much to Gilles for having this donation made in lieu of a retirement gift.
October 11, 2011 UPDATE: Our newest component of the "Cancer Fund Drumsticks Campaign" is our 'Album Auction 4 Cancer!' for 1 of 3 pairs of Los Cabos pink drumsticks used in the recording of our debut album, 'Three Streets to the Wind'. All money from this auction will go towards our fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.
July 29, 2011 UPDATE: Well, we're back from tour and excited to announce that the people of Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary & Hanna were absolutely phenomenal with embracing this cancer fund campaign! We raised over $1300.00 during those four shows, all of which is going to our grand total to be handed over to the Canadian Cancer Society!
I have to send out some special thanks to some special people:
- Tara Clark, who, on her own volition, walked around the Blind Beggar Pub in the Calgary to encourage donations and collect money from patrons for the cancer campaign.
- Trina Peters, who voluntarily assisted in the organization of the Hanna show and spent hours in a local mall to collect donations.
- Corinne Galarneau, who is one of the most determined and convincing people I know; not only did she take a lead role in organizing the Hanna show, but also she made signs and donation collection boxes, she spent hours in a local mall to promote the cause and collect donations, she helped encourage further bidding on the sticks during the live auction, etc, etc.
- Matt Carter of Los Cabos Drumsticks, who has supported & helped promote this cause from the beginning
WE ARE CONTINUING OUR CANCER CAMPAIGN WITH NEW INCENTIVES AND INITIATIVES... SO PLEASE CONTINUE TO HELP OUT, MAKE DONATIONS, PROMOTE THE CAUSE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
July 16, 2011 UPDATE: As most of you know, the original "cancer fund drumsticks" received a generous donation of $1,500 from "Smugglers Cove Roadhouse Bar & Grill" in Burin, Newfoundland. BUT that doesn't mean this campaign is over... FAR FROM IT! The campaign is contining throughout our Drinkin Like Its Free Tour, and will be going on until the end of the summer. What are we doing now? Donations are still be requested & collected online and at our shows. Further, Peyts will playing a brand new set of Los Cabos pink breast cancer awareness sticks at EVERY show... those sticks will be given away (for a donation) at the end of each show, with all money going to the cancer fund. So please help us spread the news, and help us raise money for this worthy cause!
The Story...
Cancer seems to have hammered us all as, in one way or another, we are connected to at least one person who has battled this disease.
Just within the past few years, I have lost two uncles, an aunt, and a friend/co-worker... I've also had several family members & friends who've contracted the disease and have thankfully been successful thus far with defeating it.
The latest person I lost was Don, my friend/co-worker mentioned above. Back in August, he began inexplicably feeling tired and having some pain in his elbow. He left work early on a Friday to get a blood test. By Saturday morning, the doc's office told him to get in immediately; he was told he had Leukemia. He began treatment right away, including chemo and later a bone marrow transplant. He remained positive, with a fighter's attitude. After Christmas, it appeared that he had the cancer beat. On January 1, he celebrated his 40th birthday with his wife and 5 & 8 year old kids. But in March, during a check-up, it was determined that the cancer returned, and that there was nothing else that could be done. Don died on April 7, 2011.
I took Don's passing fairly hard... but also it served as a wake-up call to me.
